Conmebol investigates Memphis Depay for alleged obscene gestures towards Estudiantes fans

The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) confirmed this Thursday to EFE that it is investigating whether the Dutchman Memphis Depay player of Corinthians, He made obscene gestures to the fans of Estudiantes de La Plata during Wednesday’s match between both clubs for the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores that ended tied at one goal.

The rector of South American football opened a disciplinary file against the Dutch attacker after the Argentine team, four-time winner of the Copa Libertadores, filed a formal complaint in which it demanded sanctions against the former Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid footballer.

Videos widely spread on social networks show Depay making what appears to be an offensive gesture to the Estudiantes fans, with the middle finger of his right hand raised, after player Kaio César equalized the match after 49 minutes of play.

This Thursday, Corinthians reported that it received notification of the opening of the file for the possible violation of literals “C” and “U” of the Conmebol Disciplinary Code, related to acceptable behavior on the field of play.
