Rain of millions on the Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets confirmed this Thursday their commitment to one of the most valuable young talents in the NBA. Amen Thompson, considered one of the best defenders in the NBA at 23 years old, will continue to be linked to the Texas franchise in the long term after both parties reached an agreement to extend his rookie contract.

According to ESPN, Amen Thompson will sign, as expected, for the maximum allowed with Houston: 208 million dollars for the next five seasons – more than 41 million on average per season -, figures that will come into force from 2027-28. The forward’s new contract will include a 10% trade kicker.

In this way, the Rockets ensure the permanence of the #4 pick in the 2023 Draft, one of the most promising young people in the league in the medium long term. Likewise, Thompson becomes the second player of his generation along with Victor Wembanyama (Spurs) to extend his rookie contract. The Frenchman, for his part, renewed for $252 million in five seasons in mid-July.

Thompson, who recorded 18.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.5 steals per game this last season, joins the list of renewals in recent months for the Rockets, as Alperen Sengun committed until 2029 and Jabari Smith Jr. until 2031.
