Serena and Venus Williams, together in doubles at the US Open

Venus and Serena Williams have received an invitation to play in the women’s doubles of the US Open, which begins on Sunday, as announced on Wednesday by the organizers of the last Grand Slam tournament of the season.

This announcement from the United States Tennis Federation (USTA) follows Serena Williams’ spectacular return to the Arthur Ashe Court on Tuesday, when she and her mixed doubles partner, Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, won their first match before falling in the quarterfinals.

Venus Williams had already received an invitation to participate in the US Open women’s singles, an event in which her younger sister does not participate.

Serena Williams, champion of 23 Grand Slam singles titles, returned this summer at the age of 44, after four years away from the courts. Venus, 46 years old and with seven Grand Slam titles, returned to the circuit in July 2025 and has played several matches in both singles and doubles.

The two sisters have a total of 14 Grand Slam titles in women’s doubles, including two US Opens (1999 and 2009). Additionally, they have won three Olympic gold medals together in women’s doubles.

They had last played together in New York in 2022, when they lost their opening match against the Czech pairing of Lucie Hradecka and Linda Noskova.

They also lost their first match at the recent WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati.
