Unai Iribar will be part of Caja Rural-Seguros RGA next season
The Gipuzkoan Unai Iribar (Ibarra, 1999) will be part of Caja Rural-Seguros RGA starting next season after completing five seasons of evolution in the professional category and having signed a two-year contract with the green team.
The results achieved these years have demonstrated its worth both in one-day events and in stage races, standing out above all on hard terrain and in the mountains, according to the team in a statement.
This is reflected by his third place overall in the Tour of Langkawi, sixth in the French Classic Grand Besançon this season or seventh in the Giro della Romagna last year, to which is added the top-10 overall in the Portuguese GP Beiras, the Giro dell’Appennino and the Tour du Jura. In Itzulia he has been around the top-20 overall and has completed a Vuelta a España.
The cyclist is “very happy to sign for a historic team like Caja Rural-Seguros RGA.” “I see that it is a team that is growing year after year with a solid base, with a very attractive squad and calendar, where they have found their place very well within the peloton, with a mix of experience and youth.”
“It seems to me that I am a runner who can fit perfectly into the team,” he says in statements provided by the team in which he recognizes that he handles himself best in the steepest races. Apart from that, as he explains, he studies “the races and the opposing teams a lot (sometimes too much),” which allows him to know and read both the terrain and the rivals well.
He describes himself as “a climber who defends himself in broken, technical and difficult territories. Constant at work and stubborn, a person who enjoys cycling, as a runner and as a spectator.”
The cyclist concludes by showing his gratitude to the Kern Pharma team and Juanjo Oroz, as well as to the Euskadi Foundation, Goierriko Txirrindulari Eskola, Oriako Txirrindulari Eskola and each of the people who have made him be the cyclist he is.
