Germany, Spain’s first test on the road to the World Cup

The spanish national team basketball begins this Saturday, with the first friendly match against Germany (7:00 p.m.) in the German town of Luisburgo, its path of preparation towards the Berlin World Cupwhich is disputed from September 4 to 13.

This is the first friendly of the five that the team will play. Miguel Mendez to prepare for the next World Cup to be held in the German capital, in which Spain will debut precisely against the hosts on September 4.

The team traveled to Luísburg this Thursday with the 16 players summoned by Méndez, among which the captain stands out Alba Torrenswith his 222 caps, and the debutant Martha Garcianew SPAR Girona player.

The coach pointed out that it is a game in which he wants to “listen more than talk”, especially to “see their responses and take notes”, since he believes that Germany will do the same to avoid revealing clues with a view to the World Cup premiere.

Likewise, Andrea Vilaró, player of the Spanish basketball team, stated that this first match against the Germans is “the first touch to see the level” the team is at and assured that the members of ‘La Familia’ are “prepared” and “want to compete.”

Neither of the two teams still has the presence of the basketball players who are playing the WNBA. In the case of Spain, these are five key players in Méndez’s schemes, Awa FamRaquel Carrera, Megan GustafsonMaría Conde and Alicia Flórez, who will progressively join the team at the end of August.

For its part, Germany will also be without its main stars, Leonie Fiebich, the sisters Satou and Nyara Sabally or Frida Bühner, since they are fulfilling their commitments with their clubs in the United States.

After the match on German soil, the team will return to Spain and face each other in Tenerife to Nigeria (August 21) and the current European champions, Belgium (August 23). The ‘We dream again’ tour will conclude in Saragossawhere ‘The Family’ will face Mali (August 29) and China (August 30) in the Príncipe Felipe pavilion.

Subsequently, they will travel to Berlin for the World Cup, in which they will face each other in the group stage to Germany, Mali and Japan.
