Paula Blasi, with a gregarious soul on her debut Tour: “The goal was Elisa’s podium”

Spanish cyclist Paula Blasi (UAE) declared that they were “clear that the goal was the podium” for her teammate Elisa Longo Borghini, who finished in third position in the general classification in the fifth edition of the women’s Tour de France.

“From the first climb it was very hot. We were lucky because the day was a little cloudy. It was an elimination race. We were clear that the goal was the podium, Antonia (Niedermaier) looked very strong and we wanted to secure the podium,” he added, into the Eurosport microphones.

Blasi, whose team had made clear her role as a gregarious despite being the current champion of the Vuelta a España, fulfilled her role and accompanied Elisa Longo Borghini to ensure that the Italian was third, taking advantage of the weakness of Marlen Reusser (Movistar) who was not at her usual level on the last day of the Tour.

The Spaniard made her debut in the ‘Grande Boucle’ and finished fifth overall and second in the last stage, prevailing at the finish over the rest of the favorites who were riding behind Demi Vollering (FDJ-Suez), winner of the day and overall.

Asked about her next objective, she was clear: “Make another podium at the party. If we are going to win in the Tour, we are going to win at the party, to blow up some night club. It has been 9 very hard, very demanding days, and now to relax a little.”
