Piastri, Bearman and Colapinto miss FP1 in Hungary due to the “rookie rule”
The “rookie rule” of the Formula 1which forces each regular driver to give up his car twice a year in FP1 a rookie, has left him without the first free practice sessions in Budapest to three drivers on the grid.
Oscar Piastri (McLaren), Oliver bearman (haas) and Franco Colapinto (Alpine) will be replaced in said session by Leonardo FornaroliRyo Hirakawa and paul Aaronrespectively. It should be noted that a “rookie” is considered anyone who has not completed more than two races as a Formula 1 driver.
Leonardo Fornaroli, champion of the FIA F3 in 2024, he became McLaren’s reserve driver a few months ago, after winning the title Formula 2. The current champion of the silver category has already participated with those of Woking in another Grand Prix. The Italian made his official debut in a Formula 1 GP in Montmelowhen he participated in the first free training sessions of Barcelona-Catalonia.
The one who is most experienced in these matters is Ryo Hirakawa, who will start during the Hungarian Grand Prix his eighth free practice. Although he has never participated in a Formula 1 race, he has previously done FP1 sessions with McLaren in 2024 and Alpine last year. The Japanese arrived in 2025 to the Haas team with the help of toyotawith whom he competes in the Endurance World Cup.
Paul Aron will also be at the Hungaroring, making the same appearances in free practice as Hirakawa. The Estonian, third in FIA Formula 2 in 2024, will race with Alpine in another session as a reserve driver. However, he has also participated with Audi (and, previously, under the name Sauber) in several FP1s during this season and last year.
In this way, both Piastri, Bearman and Colapinto will miss the first session of free practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix. These three drivers will have two sessions to prepare for Saturday’s qualifying and Sunday’s race.
