Patrick Ewing returns to the NBA
Even with the ring of the New York Knicks still very fresh, many nostalgic romantics of the New York franchise would like it to Patrick Ewing returning to the NBA outside to dress short again and lift that championship in Madison Square Garden that could not with those lost Finals of 1994 and 1999. But Ewing returns to be competition for the Knicks in the East from the sideline.
According to ESPN, the legendary center has joined the Washington Wizards to be an assistant coach for Brian Keefethe coach of the capital team.
The Wizards thus add another bell-ringing signing to their team, a contender this year who comes to fight for the ring after several years of misery with the duo Trae Young – Anthony Davisnumber 1 in the draft AJ Dybantsa and other young people with potential like Alex Sarr. Of course, we will have to see what ultimately happens with Davis whom the Warriors want transferred to join him with LeBron James, a great objective for Stephen Curry’s franchise this summer.
Ewing has extensive experience working as an assistant coach, having held this position between 2002 and 2017 with the Wizards themselves and also with the Houston Rockets, Orlando Magic and Charlotte Hornets.
Between 2017 and 2023, the Knicks legend coached Georgetown of the NCAA, the same university he led to the title in 1984 and a Big East tournament title in 2021 as his greatest achievement at this stage.
In addition to Patrick Ewing, Washington has also hired a veteran coach like Steve Clifford head coach in his day with Magic and Hornets and an assistant for other franchises such as the Knicks, Lakers and Suns, where he was an assistant to Jordan Ott last season.
The Wizards haven’t played in the playoffs since 2021 and they have done nothing but wander in the catacombs of the NBA in recent seasons. Washington was the worst team last season with a pyrrhic record of 17-65, the worst in the East two years ago and the second-to-last three years ago. The last one to arrive so that no one laughs at the team from the capital, Patrick Ewing.
