Jódar out at Queen’s with abdominal injury

The Spanish tennis player Rafa Jódar, number 23 in the ATP ranking, has withdrawn from the Queen’s tournament, which is held in London on grass, due to abdominal muscle problems, as has just been revealed.

The injury of the Madrid native, who was going to play his first tournament as a professional on this surface and who was going to debut this Tuesday against the Peruvian Ignacio Buse, puts his participation in Wimblendon, which begins in two weeks, in doubt.

Jódar, 19, did not appear at his assigned training track on Monday morning.

Hours later, the tournament organization confirmed the withdrawal of the Spanish tennis player, who will be replaced by the American Marcos Giron, who enters the draw as a “lucky loser” after falling in the previous round.

“I am very sorry that I will not be able to play this week at Queen’s. In recent training sessions I have felt pain in my abdominal area, and after evaluating it with specialists, stopping is the best decision to be able to compete again soon,” the player published on his social networks.

The ailment suffered by the Spaniard seriously compromises his participation in Eastbourne, in the 250 category, and which was on his roadmap for preparation for Wimbledon, which will begin in two weeks.
