Bryan Bergougnoux, former Lyon player, dies suddenly at the age of 43

France is shocked by the death of Bryan Bergougnouxformer player of Olympique Lyonnais died suddenly at the age of 43. Bergougnoux trained at Olympique Lyon and definitively established himself in the first team in the 2003/04 season. The attacking midfielder ultimately played 48 official matches for the French club and scored six goals.

During his time at Lyon, Bergougnoux experienced the most successful years of his career: he won three league titles and also managed to win the French Super Cup three times. In 2005, he moved to Toulouse, where he spent four seasons. Later, he played for the Italian club Lecce, which temporarily loaned him to Chateauroux and Omonia Nicosia.

Bergougnoux, who leaves behind a wife and four children, concluded his career as a professional player with Tours FC. Later, he focused on coaching. Since the summer of 2025 he was part of the Le Havre coaching staff as an assistant coach. According to ‘Le Progrès’, Bergougnoux was scheduled to participate in a legends tournament on Friday but various sources report that he suddenly lost consciousness in the car on the way to the event. After the incident, the former soccer player was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
