Lithuanian center Martinas Geben renews with Bàsquet Girona
The Lithuanian center Martinas Geben, one of the key players of Bàsquet Girona, has renewed his contract with the Catalan team and will play for another year in Fontajau.
It is the first market move announced by Girona, one day after sealing the best season in its history in the Endesa League in classification (12th) and in victories (14).
Geben, 31, has once again been one of the leaders of Moncho Fernandez’s team, with numbers of 11 points, 6.1 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 13.7 efficiency credits per game.
The 2024-2025 season was already one of the architects of Girona’s permanence, with 9 points, 5 rebounds and 12 rating credits.
Girona’s statement points out his “extensive experience in European basketball” because he has competed in Lithuania, Germany, Slovenia and Spain and his game, a combination of “physique, knowledge of the game and competitive ability.”
The sports director, Fernando San Emeterio, has highlighted in statements distributed by the club itself that he is “a player who has fallen on his feet both in the club and in the city” and has helped “a lot” to achieve Girona’s best season in the ACB.
“It was one of our priorities to give continuity to our project and we are very satisfied to have achieved it,” added San Emeterio.
He has also admitted that he is “a great player” and at the same time “an example of professionalism” and “one of our references off the court”, as well as captain.
