Master’s World Cup 2026: Argentine players with an intact dream
The Argentine Master teams have a very clear objective for 2026: the World Cup. The different teams will compete starting in July in different categories and Malena Hussey and Karina Rossi, members of the +55 team, spoke with AM850.com ahead of the competition that will be held in Belgium.
Argentina is the first to take three teams to this World Cup event in the +55 category, but In total, 20 national teams will compete, from the +35 to +70 category, on the women’s and men’s side. Some will compete in the World Cup, and others in the International Master Cup (IMC) which is also played in Belgium on the same dates. It is the second year that the IMC has been played, and in the first, which was in 2024, Argentina came out runner-up.
The vast majority are mothers who play for their clubs, in the 4th or 2nd division and who are at CeNARD very early on Sundays to train and prepare for what is coming. They are players who do not have a subsidy from anyone, they pay everything themselves and organize different things to raise money and make this dream come true. Many are from the interior of the country or the province, and travel the same day they train to be able to be there.
“We want to be champions in Belgium” commented Malena Husseyfrom the +55 category. Being one of the most competitive players on that team, Male plays for Lomas Athletic Club –after having played 10 years in Germany– and she had the fortune of representing Argentina when she was a girl; Now that he is older, he expressed the excitement that comes with doing it again: “Tears fall every time I put on the Argentine shirt and listen to the anthem. It is a huge honor.”
Karina Rossioriginally from Banco Nación, has played for Club Ciudad de Buenos Aires for many years. She had her time in Primera A, Primera B, founded Primera C and was also a coach for 40 years. They have known Male for a long time, sharing the court for the first time when they represented Buenos Aires in the 1982 Argentine National Teams.
With all the years playing and dedicating so much to this sport, the players are very aware that The most important thing is the support of the family. “They know that this is part of our life, and they encourage you to continue because they understand that it is part of it,” said Karina.
The +55 World Cup will begin on August 16, and the different Argentine teams, with their dream intact, will seek to establish themselves as the best in the world.
