The Cimarronas achieved their best position in the FIH world ranking
The Pre-World Championships ended and the FIH updated the world ranking, with Uruguay in a new historical position. The Cimarronas, who have just won a great Pan American Cup in mid-2025, competed in the pre-qualifying competition in India and, unfortunately, were eliminated in the group stage, so the World Cup dream could not come true. Yes indeed, They managed to climb two positions and reach the highest in their history.
Uruguay’s work over the last few years has been improving significantly and can be seen in the results and in the FIH ranking. In 2002, Las Cimarronas moved between 27th and 25th place; In 2023 they were maintained and at the end of the year they rose to 24th place; in 2024 they managed to maintain themselves; and in 2025 is where the noticeable improvement begins. They went from 24th position to 18th, a historic year for them. At the beginning of 2026, they dropped to 19th place and after the World Cup they climbed to their current position, which is 17th place.
