Andreozzi surprised Zeballos, left him without the world No. 1 and advanced to the Indian Wells final
The Argentinian Guido Andreozzi (34°) and the french Manuel Guinard (22nd) achieved one of the most important victories of their careers by defeating the successful duo composed of Horacio Zeballos (2nd) and Marcel Granollers (3rd) and get into the final of the Masters 1000 Indian Wells.
In a vibrant match from start to finish, played on the center court of the American complex, the least experienced duo, who have competed as a team since the last edition of the US Open, won by 6-7 (13), 6-3 and 10-5 against one of the most dominant pairings on the circuit, top favorites to lift the title, after two hours and 20 minutes of game.
The Spanish-Argentine duo, crowned at Roland Garros 2025 and US Open 2025, started with an advantage, taking a marathon tie-breaker in the first set, but on the other side of the net they never gave up. With constant work and without regretting the lost opportunities, they managed to turn history around and get their well-deserved prize: advance to the definition of a Masters 1000 event for the first time in their careers.
One of the key moments came wheneither the recent Davis Cup debutant, 34 years old, executed a majestic winner parallel to break the rival serve and take a distance of 5‑3 in the second set, forcing minutes later the definition in the match tiebreak. At that moment of maximum tension, the formula composed of the one from Buenos Aires, 34 years old, and the one from Saint-Malo, 30, showed coldness and trustgiving the surprising defeat against the Mar del Plata and the Catalan, 40 and 39, respectively.
For the title, and after leaving behind the duos of the Australians John Peers (59th) and Alex De Miñaur (353rd), the Portuguese Francisco Cabral (19th) and the Austrian Lucas Miedler (21st), the local Christian Harrison (11th) and the British Neal Skupski (1st), fourth seeds, and the aforementioned Zeballos/Granollers, they will face in the decisive instance cousins sensation Arthur Rinderknechfrom France, and Valentin Vacherotfrom Monaco, executioners of the Serbian Novak Djokovic and the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas in the round of 16.
For its part, Zeballos was left without the possibility of recovering the world No. 1 in doubles. It should be remembered that he had already occupied the top of the men’s ranking between June 6 and 27, 2024, and then uninterruptedly between July 15 and November 4 of the same year. The victory would have returned him to the ATP preferential seat.
