“It’s one of my big goals”: Djokovic revealed what his main motivation is at this point in his career

Number one in the world for 428 weeks, 24-time Grand Slam champion, owner of a countless list of records and firmly positioned as one of the best athletes in history. At 38 years old, Novak Djokovic has achieved it all but his hunger for glory remains intact. That’s why, During his participation in Indian Wells, the Serbian told what goal is that keeps him motivated and competitive.

“Reaching the Olympic Games is one of my great goals,” He assured after his debut at the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells, verbalizing his desire to compete in Los Angeles 2028.

“That would be nice. I mentioned it a few times last year. There’s still a long way to go. At my age and at this stage in my career, each year is a longer period than for any of the younger ones. But I’ll try to get it. Trying to be there is one of my motivations”revealed the Paris 2024 champion.

This week, the Belgrade native returned to competition after a month of absence on the most demanding circuit in the world. After his fall in the grand final of the 2026 Australian Open against Carlos Alcaraz (1st), he decided to get off the Middle East tour and landed directly in the United States to be part of the first Masters 1000 of the season.

In his initial presentation in this edition of Indian Wells, he fought for 2h 12min facing weather conditions that pushed him to the point of breakdown in the stadium, to finally take the victory over the Polish Kamil Majchrzak (57th) by 4-6, 6-1 and 6-2.

In the third instance it will be crossed with Alexander Kovacevic (72nd), 27-year-old American, whom he already defeated in the only previous match played in the first round of Roland Garros 2023.
