Pat Murphy repeats as Manager of the Year in the National League

Pat Murphy is the second manager in the National League to win the award in two consecutive seasons.

Pat Murphywho led the Milwaukee Brewers to lead major leagues in triumphs in 2025, won by second consecutive season he Manager of the Year award of the National Leaguel, announced on Tuesday the Baseball Writers Association of America (BBWAA).

Murphy joins Bobby Cox (2004-05) as the only drivers on the circuit to win the trophy in consecutive seasons, but he is the first to achieve it in his first two years in office.

Murphy earned 27 first-place votes, outvoting Terry Francona of the Cincinnati Reds and Rob Thomson of the Philadelphia Phillies.

Under Murphy’s tutelage, Milwaukee went a major league-best and franchise-record 97-65 to win the Central Division for the third consecutive season and fourth in five years.

Murphy led Milwaukee to a major league-best 97-65 record this year, setting a franchise record for wins. The Brewers were in second place in the NL Central in early July before surpassing the Chicago Cubs with a remarkable 29-4 run that included a 14-game winning streak, another franchise record.

Milwaukee eliminated Chicago in a memorable National League Division Series before being swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Championship Series. The five-game victory over the division rival Cubs was the first postseason series won by the Brewers since they swept the Colorado Rockies in the 2018 divisional series.

The affable Murphy, who turns 67 on Nov. 28, was Milwaukee’s bench coach for eight seasons. He was promoted after Craig Counsell left for the Cubs in November 2023.

The Brewers also won the NL Central in Murphy’s first season in charge, finishing with a 93-69 record.

“This is a tremendous and well-deserved honor for the second year in a row,” Brewers president of baseball operations Matt Arnold said in a statement.

Murphy had a long coaching career at the college level, including stints at Notre Dame and Arizona State, before serving as a special assistant with the San Diego Padres for the 2010 season. He had a 42-54 record as interim manager of the Padres in 2015.

This Wednesday, the Cy Young Award winner for each league will be announced. On Thursday, the Most Valuable Player awards will be presented.
