Coco Gauff defeated Paolini and the WTA Finals already have a new player eliminated
Coco Gauff achieved his first victory in the WTA Finals 2025. The American, defending champion, defeated Jasmine Paolini by 6-3 and 6-2 and not only keeps their semi-final chances alive, but eliminated the Italian from the tournament.
The European player had several games in the first set with ample advantages to win them, both with his service and with his rival’s serve. But her inaccuracies meant that she only won three games and was broken twice.
The North American was also imprecise in the first race, but much less so than the Italian. The nerves, knowing that the loser was out of the competition, played their game separately.
After having taken the first set, Gauff played his best tennis and improved in all aspects unlike Paolini. In this way he almost swept it, including a double break, to win the match and continue dreaming of qualifying for the semifinals.
On the last date, Coco will define everything against the number one in the world: Aryna Sabalenka. Only a victory will catapult her into the top four of the WTA Finals 2025, where anything can happen in the Steffi Graf group.
Paolini, on the other hand, will close his participation with no chance of qualifying for the semifinals. In the last match, she will play against Jessica Pegula who will also have options to advance to the round. The Italian, in this way, became the second eliminated from the tournament along with Madison Keys, a member of the Serena Williams group.
