WNBA: Bueckers and Ogunbowale lead Wings triumph
Dallas Wings beat New York Liberty thanks to the 40 combined points of Arike Ogunbowale and Paige Bueckers.
Arlington, Texas–Arike Ogunbowale scored 20 points and 14 assists, Paige Bueckers scored 20 points and the Dallas Wings resisted to beat the New York Liberty by 92-82 on Monday night, despite just scoring a field shot in the last quarter.
Dallas led 85-62 for three quarters, but a triple of Aziaha James in the absence of about 7 minutes was the only Wings basket in the last period.
New York beat Dallas 20-3 in the first 8 and a half minutes, culminating with triple Jonquel Jones that put the score in 88-82.
Bueckers, with its former schedule of UConn Azzi Fudd present, wearing a shirt with the phrase “I Heart Pb”, finally scored for Dallas, lighting two free throws in the absence of 1:06. After failing a suspension of Jones, Dijonai Carrington led two free throws for an advantage of 92-82 with 54 remaining seconds.
The Wings led 31-19 after the first quarter and extended their advantage to 63-36 to rest, when Ogunbowale became the first player in the history of the WNBA to score at least 15 points and 10 assists in one.
Jones scored 18 points for New York (17-8), who played without Breanna Stewart for a right-legged injury and lost his second consecutive game. Sabrina Ionescu scored 17.
Luisa Geiselsoder scored 14 points for Dallas (8-19).
