The strong man of the Estone team wants to put the French brand in the fight from next season, year with new rules and that his team will be a Mercedes client for motorization.

Flavio Briatore returned to the F1 Paddock in its function as executive advisor to the Alpine team, directly responding to Luca de Meo, CEO World CEO of Renault. The untimely resignation of Oliver Oakes in his charge as director of the team, promoted the Italian to be the man with a total decision, no matter how much he cannot exercise the role of English for not having a license or being an employee of the team. But the ex -president of Benetton and Renault (the parent company) is the one that carries the baton inside doors. And he has an armed plan to fight up from next season.

“In 2026 we can win races, I guarantee it, and in 2027 we want to be aspiring to the title,” said Briatore to the French media Le Monde. “In 2026, there will be no excuses: we must be competitive. We owe it to Renault, to Alpine … we are in this sport to win, and with the new regulations that will enter into force in 2026, the teams that best interpret it will have the advantage,” added the 75 -year -old Italian.

In 2026 a new technical regulation will be released whereby all cars and engines will be new. In the case of the French team, starting next season, it will stop using its own driving plants and will become a client of Mercedes, one of the first weight decisions that Brosta made before closing the 2024 World Cup. The German company is expected to begin with some advantage in its engines, as happened when the hybrid era was released in 2014. “Changing Mercedes engines was a very difficult decision, but in this sport, to win, the same tools are needed as others. For endless reasons rooted in the past, we were at a disadvantage in that aspect, ”said Briatore. The current A525 engine has a loss that is between 15 and 25 hp, depending on the brand with which it compares it.

The idea is to perch on the fight from the next World Cup, with the horizon of fighting for the crown in 2027. For that, Briatore appeals to work, there is no other. “The easiest way to win is to sign Max Verstappen, but we can’t. So we have to work with what we have,” he closed.
