Badosa prior to the debut in Paris: “I am not worried about Osaka, I am worried about how my back is”
Paula Badosa reduced his expectations in Roland Garros, Tournament that reaches with little filming, after having suffered an injury, and pointed out that it is not at the level of the open past of Australia, where it reached the semifinals, the first ones that played in a Grand Slam: “You have to be realistic, I do not address this Roland Garros as I approached the Australian Open. Maybe in Wimbledon it can do it. But I didn’t play a complete game in two months.”
“The goal will be to play the maximum possible matches, every minute on the track right now has a lot of value for me. My goal in this Roland Garros is not the one, but you have to remember that I return from an injury,” he added.
The Spanish indicated that his reunion with the level tennis in Strasbourg was better than he expected, “with good feelings”, but that does not make him throw the bells on the fly.
Your first rival will be Naomi Osaka, former world number 1 and winner of four Grand Slam, But that he does not just recover his level after a maternity break two years ago: “She is a great player, but she does not worry me, I am worried about how my back is, if she answers me, I am not worried about the rival,” assured.
Badosa said that overcoming the injuries is being “hard”, but that he has won in maturity when facing it mentally: “It is hard for me to reach the level where I left it and that generates doubts. I know that complicated weeks await me, in which I will lose matches that I should win and points that I will let out. I mentally cost me because I am very competitive and when you have faced it many times it is like a mountain.”
“But now I am calmer with myself, I am doubting less (…) I think I’m going to return to the level I had soon,” he said.
Badosa said that he will try this Sunday to follow the Tribute that Roland Garros prepares Rafael Nadal: “It is something unique. Now that I have been injured and I have seen a lot of tennis, I have realized how much it is made. Not only his charisma on the track, those values are difficult to find. We did not value him and now that he is not missing much. It is a great pride that our country represents.”
