Gators Go For NCAA Gymnastics Title

The University of Florida gymnastics team begins its quest for a program first ever national title as Florida hosts the NCAA Gymnastics Championship starting today.

Florida is the second seed for the event and will begin action in the evening rotation today. UCLA is the number one seed for the competition, a program that has won several national titles.

This is the third time that Florida has hosted this event and the Gators are also looking to win it for the first time; Florida finished as high as second back in 1998.

In today's Session I starting at 1pm in the O'Connell Center, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon State, UCLA and Utah will compete. In tonight's Session II at 7pm, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Michigan, Missouri and Stanford will compete.

The top three teams in each session will advance to the Super Six competition tomorrow night at 6pm for a right to win a national title. Individual event titles will take place Saturday night at 6pm.

Many believe Florida has a great chance to win this event. The Gators in past years have seemed to peak too early but it looks like this year Florida is scoring and peaking at exactly the right time.

If Florida can win a national title, it would be the third one that the Gators would have won this year, joining men's track and women's swimming.
