With the NFL free agency period now officially started, a number of teams have begun clearing money by releasing some veteran players.
Former Gator Lito Sheppard was let go by the New York Jets after playing for them for just one season. The Jets reportedly also get cornerback Antonio Cromartie from San Diego in exchange for a third round draft choice in the 2010 draft.
Washington really cleans house under new coach Mike Shanahan, releasing veterans like quarterback Todd Collins, running backs Rock Cartwright and Ladell Betts, receiver Antwan Randle El and cornerback Fred Smoot.
The Cincinnati Bengals release veteran wide receiver Lavernanues Coles and Arizona officially releases defensive back Antrel Rolle.
And the Carolina Panthers release starting quarterback Jake Delhomme.
