The University of Florida baseball and softball teams got nice wins on Sunday against some good competition.
The Gator baseball team (7-2) knocked off Miami 4-2 to win the series down in Coral Gables. Bryson Smith hit a three run homer to support the solid pitching of starter Tommy Toledo and reliever Kevin Chapman as Florida takes a series in Coral Gables for only the fifth time since 1960.
The Gators return home for five games this week. Illinois State comes in Tuesday and Wednesday and Charleston Southern is here for the weekend.
Meanwhile the Gator softball team goes 4-1 in a tournament in California after knocking off Loyola Marymount 13-1 on Sunday. Florida (16-2) got two homers and three r-b-i from Megan Bush as the Gators hit a total of three homers on the day.
Ensley Gammel and Stephanie Brombacher each picked up two wins in the circle for Florida, who starts SEC play with a doubleheader on Wednesday against nationally ranked Georgia.
