Hernandez To NFL; Harvin NFL Rookie Of The Year

Junior tight end Aaron Hernandez is the second University of Florida football player to formally declare for the NFL Draft this spring after doing so in a release sent out by the university late Wednesday.

Most draft experts think Hernandez could be as high as a late first round pick although most see him going in the second round.

Former Gator wide receiver Percy Harvin was named the NFL Rookie of the Year by the Associated Press. He has been a major contributor to the Minnesota Vikings offense as a runner and receiver and also as a kick returner, gaining nearly 1,000 yards in running and receiving and over 1,100 yards as a kick returner.

In other NFL news, it looks like the Kansas City Chiefs may hire former Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis as their new offensive coordinator. Weis of course has NFL experience there when he served in that capacity for the New England Patriots.

And former Gator assistant Mike Shanahan was formally introduced as the new head coach of the Washington Redskins after he signs a five year contract to coach the team. There is still no word from Cleveland as to coach Eric Mangini's future after he met with new team president Mike Holmgren.
