Gator Women's Hoops Loses; Men Play Tonight

The Florida women's basketball team saw its record fall to 5-6 on the year after it lost to High Point 75-68 in the finals of the Gator Holiday Classic in Gainesville.

The Panthers came into the game hitting only 28 percent from beyond the arc but in this game they shot a blistering 11 of 18 from distance and also shot 46 percent for the game as they square their record at 6-6.

The Gators came out with little energy and High Point seized an early lead. The lead grew to double digits in the second half before Florida rallied to take a lead with about five minutes to go in the game but it was a lead the team could not hold.

Florida will now play Ohio University at home on December 28th.

The Gator men's basketball team tries to break a two game losing streak when it hosts South Alabama tonight; AM 850 and Rock 104 have live coverage starting at 6:25pm. The Gators are a banged up team right now with several players nursing injuries. It is possible Florida may play without reserve front court player Erik Murphy after he reaggravated a shoulder injury in Florida's loss to Richmond.

South Alabama is a small and quick team that doesn't have a starter taller than 6'8" center Charles Tabet. Three players average in double figures in scoring led by junior guard Tim Williams who averages 12.9 points a game. The Jaguars shoot 43 percent from the field but only 33 percent from beyond the arc although Gary Redus shoots over 50 percent from that range.

The 8-4 Jaguars also are a very good free throw shooting team at 72 percent and despite their lack of size, they hold their own in rebounding, outrebounding their opponents on average by a rebound a game.
