Carlos Dunlap Arrested On DUI Charge

Starting University of Florida defensive lineman Carlos Dunlap has been arrested and charged with a DUI offense.

According to a Gainesville Police Department report, a vehicle listed as a "reckless vehicle" was spotted in the 200 block of Southwest 34th Street early this morning and according to a citizen the car was sitting at a red light and not moving.

GPD officers were dispatched to the scene and observed the car sitting at the light not moving through several phases of the light changing signals. They went up the vehicle and saw the driver "asleep at the wheel" and officers turned off the car and made contact with driver who was later identified as Dunlap.

According to GPD spokesman Keith Kameg, officers believed alcohol was involved in the incident and they asked Dunlap to take a field sobriety test which he did poorly on and he was then brought to the police station where he refused to do a breath test. He was then arrested on one count of driving under the influence and transported to the Alachua County Jail where he was booked in on that charge.

It remains to be seen what, if anything, will happen to Dunlap as Florida prepares to play in the SEC Championship Game this weekend. Gator coach Urban Meyer was roundly criticized by some a few weeks ago when he initially suspended linebacker Brandon Spikes for only a half after he allegedly gouged the eyes of a Georgia running back in a pile. Meyer later made Spikes sit out the entire game against FIU.
