Both Gator Hoops Teams In Action Tonight

Both University of Florida basketball teams are in action today in the O'Connell Center as the Florida women host Alabama Birmingham and the Gator men host Florida State.

AM 850 and Rock 104 have live coverage of Gator men's basketball at 6:25pm.

The Gator women (1-2) are trying to snap a two game losing streak but their losses have come to nationally ranked FSU and Pittsburgh. UAB though is in the same boat, losing two straight to third ranked Ohio State and to Miami.

The Blazers are led by senior forward Tamika Dukes who averages 14.7 points and 8.3 rebounds a game. Freshman Jala Harris contributes 12.7 points and 5.3 rebounds a game as well.

The Gators are led by guard Jordan Jones and her 14.7 points a game and senior forward Sharielle Smith averages 12.3 points and a team high 8.3 boards a game.

The Gator men face a tough stretch of games beginning with FSU tonight. The Seminoles have won four of the last five meetings.

FSU has three players with double figure scoring averages led by 7'1" center Solomon Alabi who averages 12.3 points and 6.3 rebounds as a sophomore. Sophomore guard Devidas Dulkys averages 12.7 points and 6'8" senior forward Ryan Reid averages 103 points and 7 rebounds a contest.

FSU has nice size in the front court with sophomore 6'9" Chris Singleton at a starting forward and the Seminoles also have 6'11" Xavier Gibson coming off the bench.

Florida may have some injury concerns coming into this game as well. Forward Alex Tyus has been nursing a tender ankle and forward Chandler Parsons has had a hip flexor; both are expected however to play tonight.
