The college football season opened officially on Thursday night with a couple of key games that saw South Carolina and Boise State pick up victories.
In a game that was hardly exciting, Steve Spurrier's Gamecocks beat North Carolina State 7-3 in Raleigh. The game's only score was a short touchdown run by Brian Maddox and the Carolina defense made it stand up, holding the Wolfpack to less than 150 yards of total offense.
Meanwhile, two ranked teams played in Boise as Boise State held off Oregon 19-8 in a game marred by a postgame incident where an Oregon player punched a Boise State player. The Oregon player had to be escorted off the field; he later apologized but Oregon coach Chip Kelly was very upset that his player threw a punch in a game Boise State deserved to win.
Florida's next opponent, Troy, also played Thursday night and got thumped at Bowling Green 31-14. Quarterback Tyler Sheehan threw two touchdown passes in the win.
