NBA Draft Tonight; Shaq Traded To Cavs

The 2009 NBA Draft takes place tonight with few sure things in place as the one certainty has former Oklahoma star Blake Griffin to be selected first by the Los Angeles Clippers.

After that, who knows what will happen in a draft that is seen by many as the weakest in many years.

Some trades have already been made and a big one was made a short time ago when the Phoenix Suns agreed to trade center Shaquille O'Neal to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Suns will receive Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic, cash, and the number 46 pick in tonight's draft in return for the aging veteran who will now team with LeBron James in Cleveland.

One reason the Cavs got O'Neal is because of his performance against Orlando center Dwight Howard. Howard scorched the Cavs in the playoffs, averaging some 25 points a game; against O'Neal, that average dips 10 points.

Salary cap considerations also played into this trade as well. The Suns are making a salary dump by making the trade, and if Wallace retires, they could buy him out for less than the 14 million dollars he'll be owed next year.
