LSU Claims Baseball National Title

The LSU baseball program claims its sixth national title with an 11-4 win over Texas last night in the finals of the College World Series.

Jared Mitchell, a first round draft choice, hit a three run homer in the first inning to set the tone for the Tigers early. Texas did pull even but the Tigers scored five runs in the sixth inning to put the game away.

Anthony Ranaudo (12-3) picked up the win but was not very sharp, giving up four runs in less than six innings of work. However, the LSU bats and a solid bullpen gave the Tigers the win as they finish the season at 56-17.

It was the first national title for LSU since 2000 when Skip Bertman led his team to victory.
