The University of Florida soccer team has advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Soccer Tournament after beating UCF 2-0 on Sunday in Gainesville.
UCF had beaten Florida earlier this year but on this day the Gators got great goaltending and goals from Lindsay Thompson and Megan Kerns to secure the win. Thompson's goal came with just three seconds left in the first half that culminated a physical half of play that saw yellow cards be given to both teams.
Florida will now play Texas A&M and will host the match on Sunday.
Meanwhile the Florida volleyball team lost a five set thriller to Kentucky on the road on Sunday. With the win, the Wildcats (25-4, 16-2 SEC) take a half game lead over Florida (21-3, 15-2 SEC) in the SEC race. The teams split their two match series during the regular season.
Kelly Murphy led three Florida players in double digit kills with 13 while Lauren Bledsoe had 11 and Kelsey Bowers had a season high 10 kills.
