Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia is the American League's Most Valuable Player.
Pedroia won the award in voting made public yesterday; he beat out Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau and teammate Kevin Youkilis to win the award.
Pedroia's scrappy style won over Red Sox fans and the little guy (he's listed at 5'9" inches tall) also performed when it counted as he hit .326 with 17 homers and 83 rbi. While not eye popping numbers, Pedroia did lead the league in hits hits, doubles and runs while also performing very well defensively.
The only other second baseman to win an American League MVP award was Nellie Fox when he won it in 1959, helping to lead the "go go" Chicago White Sox to an American League pennant.
