Jed Lowrie hit a two out single in the bottom of the ninth inning to score Jason Bay to lift the Boston Red Sox to a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels and a trip to the American League Championship Series to face old foe Tampa Bay.
The Red Sox win the ALDS three games to one over Los Angeles, a team that won 100 games in the regular season but that has had trouble winning in the postseason since winning a World Series title in 2002.
Tampa Bay gets into the ALCS with a 6-2 win over Chicago on Monday to win the AL Division Series three games to one. It was another remarkable step for this Tampa franchise which has seen nothing but losing up until this year.
The National League Championship Series will have the Los Angeles Dodgers taking on the Philadelphia Phillies.
