The University of Florida football team gets back to the practice field today in preparation for its big game against LSU this Saturday.
While many will focus on the offense and defense, Gator coach Urban Meyer says he has some concerns about the LSU kickoff return team, which he says is very good. The head coach hinted there might be some personnel changes on Florida's kickoff team, which right now ranks seventh in the SEC. Ironically, LSU's kickoff return team ranks dead last in the SEC, averaging only 18 yards a return.
Even though LSU is undefeated, a couple of SEC teams that have struggled offensively, Auburn (ninth SEC) and Mississippi State (last SEC) both scored over 20 points against the Tigers. While LSU's defense gives up just 69 yards a game on the ground, it is eighth in pass defense, allowing over 190 yards a game.
On offense, Charles Scott leads the SEC in rushing, averaging 133 yards a game, one of just three SEC backs averaging over 100 yards a game. The others are Glen Coffee of Alabama and Michael Smith of Arkansas, who ran for 133 yards last week against Florida. Right now, the Gators are sixth in the SEC in run defense, giving up just shy of 100 yards a game.
