As the University of Florida football team prepares for its season opener Saturday against Hawaii, one of the big concerns was the health of wide receiver Percy Harvin.
Well, there is one more big time player Gator fans had better start worrying about after head coach Urban Meyer revealed on Monday that middle linebacker Brandon Spikes has been suffering from an injured foot.
Like with Harvin's heel injury, it is unclear how much, if at all, both will play on Saturday.
Meyer also said that defensive lineman Justin Trattou has not practiced for a few days because of the lingering effects of a concussion but did say that Matt Patchan went through a full practice for the first time after not practicing all summer.
Safety Bryan Thomas and defensive lineman Torrey Davis also returned to the practice field but both probably will not play Saturday.
Meyer also said that he is very happy with his running backs and that as many as four could see game action. Defensively, Meyer added that the Gators will use some three down linemen sets, and that true freshman Janoris Jenkins would be at corner in that set with starter Joe Haden moving to the nickel position where he could be free to make plays or perhaps blitz as well. Meyer also said true freshman defensive lineman William Green will play and there is a good chance other true freshmen like Jon Demps, safety Will Hill, and defensive tackles Omar Hunter and Patchan could see action as well.
