Rays And Marlins Lose; Instant Replay To Start

Major League Baseball will start using instant replay in very limited ways on Thursday.

Umpires will be able to look at video to see if a ball is a home run or not and on so called "boundary" calls like if a homer went fair or foul or if a fly ball went over a fence or not.

In games on Tuesday in the American League, Toronto beat Tampa Bay 6-2 as Roy Halladay picks up his 16th win of the year. Boston is now three and a half games behind the Rays after beating New York 7-3 to further dampen New York's playoff hopes.

In other games, Los Angeles beat Oakland 5-1; Cliff Lee won his 19th game and Cleveland won its ninth straight, beating Detroit 10-4; Kevin Millwood throws a complete game as Texas edges Kansas City 2-1; Chicago beats Baltimore 8-3 to go two games up on Minnesota in the AL Central after the Twins lost 3-2 at Seattle.

In the National League, Philadelphia has taken over first place in the NL East after a come from behind 8-7 win over New York. Once again the shaky Mets bullpen blew a lead, letting a 7-5 eighth inning lead slip away as they fall a half game behind the Phillies.

Arizona remains three and a half games ahead of Los Angeles in the NL West after losing to San Diego. The Dodgers also lost 2-1 to Washington.

In the NL Central, Chicago blasts Pittsburgh 14-9 but Milwaukee keeps pace with a 12-0 blistering of St.Louis. The Cubs lead the Brewers by five games but Milwaukee still has the wild card lead.

Cincinnati beat Houston 2-1; Atlanta tops Florida 10-9 as the Braves get four in the ninth to win.
