A six-run ninth inning gives the Phillies the 8-6 victory over the Mets. Philadelphia devoured New York's bullpen for the six runs with closer Billy Wagner unavailable because of an injury. Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins hit a go-ahead two-run double to help the Phillies win and take back sole possession of first place in the NL East.
For the Mets, Carlos Delgado went 1 for 5 with 2 RBIs as catcher Ramon Castro went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs. It may have been a mistake taking out starter Johan Santana after the eighth inning as the ace had only given up two earned runs in the game.
The Phillies Joe Blanton made his first start for Philadelphia since being dealt from Oakland. He didn't fare well giving up five earned runs in six innings pitched. But it didn't matter as the win came from the Phillies ninth-inning rally.
