NFL News: Giants Trade Shockey To Saints

Completing a trade that had been rumored for months, the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants trade volatile tight end Jeremy Shockey to the New Orleans Saints for second and fifth round draft choices in 2009.

Shockey, a former Miami Hurricane and four time Pro Bowl selection, grew disenchanted with his role in the Giants offense, wanting to become more involved in the vertical passing game. With New Orleans, under former Giants assistant Sean Payton, that could become a reality.

The Giants have five tight ends on their roster, including young Kevin Boss who started the final six games of the year when Shockey got hurt.

In other news, Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher, seeking a new contract, apparently has gotten one from the Bears. The 30 year old was seeking more money and according to multiple sources, Urlacher will get a bump in salary and one more year on his contract.

Training camps are now opening all around the NFL.
