According to the Gainesville Sun, former baseball standout Matt LaPorta has made the USA Olympic team. LaPorta joins Brad Wilkerson as the only two Gators ever to be named to team USA. LaPorta says he excited to play in the Olympics and thinks that this experience will help him achieve his ultimate goal of playing in the Majors. The 25 man team roster is made up mostly of minor league players and LaPorta is currently with Cleveland's Double-A affiliate in Akron, Ohio. Team USA will open play against Korea on Aug. 13.
