Braves beat Marlins

The Florida Marlins and the Atlanta Braves faced off in a match-up of NL east powers. The Braves, who were 7 games out of first place going into the game, were looking to make up some ground on the Mets and Phillies, and they would do just that. The Braves cruised early, jumping out to a 9 to nothing lead before letting the Marlins score 4 in the bottom of the ninth to make the game respectable. The Braves would go on to win the game 9 to 4. But the win came at a price. Braves starter Tim Hudson left after six shutout innings with tightness in his right elbow and Braves slugger and the National League’s best hitter Chipper Jones left the game after pulling up lame trying to beat out an infield grounder. Jones grabbed his hamstring, three quarters of the way down the first baseline, was thrown out, and did not return. The Braves are now 6 games out of first place in the NL east as the New York Mets went on to avenge their Tuesday night ninth inning meltdown against the Phillies taking last night’s game 6 to 3.
Other scores from around the league include the Yankees over the Twins 5 to 1, The Angels slug past the Indians 14 -11, the Tampa Bay Rays take the rubber match with the Athletics 4 to 3 and the Boston Red Sox hold serve as they stay a half game behind the Rays in the AL east as they double up the Mariners 6 to 3.
