American League wins marathon

It went into this morning, but the American League prevailed in the All-Star game. A 15-inning game lasted until 1:37 am today and ended in a 4-3 victory of the AL over the NL.

The games first run came from the NL's Matt Holiday in the 5th sending a solo jack to right field to put the National League up 1-0. Next inning, Lance Berkman put the NL up two by sending a sacrafice fly to center allowing Florida's Hanley Ramirez to tag up and score. A double to left by the Rays' Evan Longoria eventually tied things up 3-3 in the 8th and that would send things into extra innings.

After a couple of close plays at the plate, the AL would take the game via a Michael Young sacrafice fly to right field in the 15th. The Twins' Justin Morneau would make it to the plate before Atlanta's Brian McCann could tag him out.

The National League has not won the Mid-Summer Classic since 1996. The win for the American League gives them home-field advantage in this years World Series.
