Florida's Dan Uggla hit two home runs but it wasn't enough as the Atlanta Braves downed the Marlins 5-4 Tuesday night in Atlanta.
Chipper Jones hit his 399th career homer to help the Braves get the win; the teams will play again this afternoon.
In other National League games, Chicago won again, beating San Diego 9-6; Philadelphia edges Cincinnati 3-2; Milwaukee won its fifth in a row, beating Arizona 7-1; Colorado ends a losing streak with a 3-0 win over Los Angeles; St.Louis beats Washington 6-1; Houston blanks Pittsburgh 2-0 and New York downs San Francisco 9-6.
In the American League, the first career start for former reliever Joba Chamberlain didn't last long and his New York Yankees lost to Toronto 9-3. Chamberlain threw a lot of pitches and was yanked in the third inning.
In other action, Boston tops Tampa Bay 7-4; Oakland beat Detroit 5-4 in 11 innings; Joe Saunders is now 9-2 as Los Angeles beats Seattle 5-4; Texas beat Cleveland 12-7; Baltimore tops Minnesota 5-3; and Chicago downs Kansas City 9-5.
