The University of Florida baseball team plays its final regular season road SEC series this weekend when it takes on the University of Alabama.
Rock 104 will have live coverage of the games on Friday and Saturday at 7:25 and 4:55pm respectively. AM 850 will have Sunday's game for you at 1:55pm.
The Gators (29-18, 13-11 SEC) are looking to stay alive in the race to make the SEC Tournament and a possible NCAA regional. The Gators are tied for the third best record in the league with South Carolina.
Alabama (28-22, 12-12 SEC) started the season very slowly but has played better of baseball of late; in fact, Alabama has not lost a home series in SEC play this year.
The pitching matchups are set. Florida will start righthander Billy Bullock (4-3, 4.13 ERA) on Friday against lefty Miers Quigley (4-4, 4.91) Lefty Stephen Locke (3-2, 3.18) pitches for Florida on Saturday against righty Austin Hyatt (3-3, 4.84) and on Sunday Patrick Keating (8-0, 3.22) pitches for Florida against righty Robert Phares (2-3, 5.91).
Alabama freshman Josh Rutledge leads the team in hitting at .389 and is currently riding a 26 game hitting streak. The reigning SEC Player of the Week is Brandon May who hits .361 with eight home runs. Veteran Alex Avila hits .328 and leads the Tide with 12 homers and 47 runs batted in.
However, Alabama offensively is also prone to a lot of strikeouts; in fact, four hitters in their regular lineup each have more than 40 strikeouts on the season. By comparison, Florida has one and that player, Jonathan Pigott, is no longer a regular.
The Gators will end the SEC season next week at home against Vanderbilt. As of now, Florida is in fourth place in the SEC East but would qualify for the SEC Tournament.
