The University of Florida softball team is now the number one team in the country as it begins play in the SEC Tournament on Thursday.
Florida was either second or third in softball's two major polls but moved to number one when former number one Arizona State was defeated by UCLA over the weekend (ASU is now 54-14 overall and 16-2 in Pac 10 play) and Alabama, number one in the NFCA poll, also lost to Georgia (Alabama is 49-5 and 25-3 in the SEC).
Florida will open play in the SEC Tournament Thursday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and play eighth seeded Ole Miss.
