With the reported transfer of Georgetown University forward Vernon Macklin to Florida, does this mean that a decision has been made by Marreese Speights as to his future at Florida?
The answer is not yet totally clear, but it would certainly seem that with the 6'9" 230 pound Macklin apparently coming to Florida the move could be seen as getting a body here that would replace a departing Speights.
Macklin, a sophomore, averaged only three points and two rebounds a game last year in limited duty with the Hoyas. However, the Hargrave Military Institute graduate was a McDonalds and Parade All American in high school where he averaged 20 points and 15 rebounds a game. Georgetown officially announced on April 24th that Macklin was leaving but the school did not name the place he would transfer to for his future basketball.
AM 850 sports has spoken to several people close to the Speights situation and every one of them believes Speights will leave. However, it is to be stressed that no decision has been announced or been made by Speights and he still has several weeks to decide what his future will be. He has not to anyone's knowledge hired an agent and therefore he would be eligible to return to school.
