Former Buchholz High School pitcher Andrew Miller was roughed up but not involved in the decision as his Florida Marlins lost 7-6 Tuesday to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Miller gave up six runs and nine hits in just three innings of work. The Marlins rallied from an early deficit to tie the game but LA scored a run in the ninth to win the game.
In other action, New York beat Pittsburgh 5-4 as David Wright singled in a run in the 11th inning. Washington beat Atlanta 6-3 as Ryan Zimmerman and Nick Johnson homered for the Nationals. Philadelphia beat San Diego 7-4, denying Greg Maddux his 350th career win.
The other NL winners are St.Louis, Colorado, Houston and Milwaukee.
In the American League, Gary Sheffield and Curtis Granderson homer to help Detroit beat New York 6-4. Seattle scored five runs in the ninth to beat Cleveland 7-2 while Minnesota nips Chicago 3-1. Baltimore takes over first place in the AL East with a 7-4 win over Tampa Bay while Boston nips Toronto 1-0 by scoring a run in the ninth inning.
Joe Saunders is now 5-0 on the mound for Anaheim as the Angels blank Oakland 2-0 and Jose Guillen had five r-b-i to help Kansas City beat Texas 9-5.
