Mets Drop Into Tie For First

The New York Mets had a seven game lead with 17 games to go in the National League Eastern division race.

That was then, this is now.

New York dropped into a first place tie with Philadelphia after dropping a 3-0 decision to St.Louis while the Phillies beat Atlanta 6-4. Both teams have three games to play; the Mets finish at home with Florida and the Phillies finish at home against Washington.

In the NL Central, Chicago lost to Florida 5-4 but Milwaukee lost to San Diego 9-5 so the Cubs lead remains at two games over the Brewers. Chicago finishes at Cincinnati while the Brewers will host San Diego.

In the West, Arizona blanks Pittsburgh 8-0 to remain a game ahead of San Diego. Colorado won its 11th straight, beating Los Angeles 10-4 to stay two games out. The Rockies finish at home against Arizona.

In the wild card race, San Diego leads Philadelphia and New York and Colorado by one game.

In the American League, Boston and Cleveland are tied for the best overall league record although both teams lost; Boston lost to Minnesota 5-4 while Cleveland lost to Seattle. The Sox finish with Minnesota in Boston while Cleveland ends in Kansas City.

New York is two games back of Boston with three to play in the AL East after a 3-1 win over Tampa Bay. The Yankees finish at Baltimore.
