Keys To Victory

The fifth ranked University of Florida football team will host ninth ranked LSU Saturday in Gainesville in Florida's annual Homecoming game. AM 850 has all the live coverage for you beginning with the First And Ten pregame show at 12:30pm.

One hour after the game, tune into the Extra Point postgame show to hear comments about the game and your calls about the game as well. Here are my keys to a Florida victory on Saturday over the LSU Tigers in Gainesville.

Here are my keys to a Florida victory over LSU...

** Limit Big Plays- In a game where points are probably going to be hard to come by, the Gator defense must not give up a big play or an easy score. LSU is money in the red zone and Florida must also try to limit their trips to at least field goals, not touchdowns.

** Be Patient- LSU and Florida have two of the top four defenses in the country coming into this game, and the offenses might not have many scoring chances. Still, Florida must be patient offensively, take advantage of any errors or turnovers by LSU, and then cash them in with points.

** Offensive Line Is Big- Because of how good both defenses are, who performs best on the offensive line might be the key to this whole game. Protecting the quarterbacks and helping establish a semblance of a running game will be big for both teams as well.

** A quarterback game- Some believe that the quarterback that plays the best in this game will lead his team to victory; I agree. Ok, so it's probably that way most of the time but in this game I do think the quarterback play will be very key.

** Playmakers- Both teams possess playmakers on offense, especially at wide receiver. When the ball gets in their hands, who is going to make a big play, or make a defender miss and turn a short gain into a long one?

** Corners For Florida- Some believe that Florida's cornerbacks haven't played well and I'm not one of them; but I do think that Florida's corners right now are somewhat average players. How well they do against a talented LSU receiving corps with a hot quarterback throwing them the ball could be a big factor as well.

Enjoy the game...we'll talk on the Extra Point show.
