Gator Baseball Falls To UNC Asheville

Second baseman Evan Dawson's three run double highlighted a four run ninth inning to lead the Bulldogs of North Carolina-Asheville to an 8-5 win over sixth ranked Florida Wednesday night in Gainesville.

Asheville improves to 4-6 on the year while Florida drops to 12-4.

The Gators fell behind 4-1 after the Bulldogs scored four runs in the fourth to chase starter Bryan Augenstein, but battled back to tie the score with two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth.

However, reliever Darren O'Day ran into trouble in the ninth, loading the bases with one out. After getting a clutch strikeout, O'Day hit pinch hitter Charles Pippitt to score a run and then gave up the big double to Dawson to clear the bases.

In the bottom of the ninth, Florida got one run back on a bases loaded walk to Brian Leclerc, but Bryson Barber struck out to end the threat.

The Gators managed just eight hits in the game with Jeff Corsaletti, Brian Jeroloman, and Gavin Dickey getting two hits each.

Florida gets back in action this weekend when Michigan State comes to town for a three game series.
