Originally created in 1924 as Armistice Day, a day to commemorate the end of World War One, the name changed thirty years later to Veterans' Day to honor all men and women to have served in any war. November eleventh continues to be a day of celebration and rememberance for not only those who served, but for all Americans. While veterans are informally honored everyday for their service and committment, more formal and organized events will happen tomorrow. Director of the Office of Veteran Affairs in Alachua Count Jim Lynch explains that a big celebration will take place at Kanapaha Veterans Park here in Gainesville. The celebration will include patriotic music, skydivers, airplan formations, and a speech from guest speaker Sadie Darnell. Veterans around Gainesville recognize the importance of the day. Al Linden, Executive Director for Disabled American Veterans in the State of Florida, believes that Veterans' Day is a time for everyone to thank veterans for providing rights people often take for granted.
